Data Transfer:

This is the amount of data that is transferred from an account as visitors view the pages of the website. If you have a website with lots of video, audio, and images that gets many visitors per day, you would have to make sure that you choose a host that will allow large amounts of data to be transferred.

Dead Link:

A dead link is a link on the world wide web that points to a webpage or server that is permanently unavailable. Dead links are commonplace on the Internet, but they are considered to be unprofessional.

Dedicated Hosting:

A dedicated host means the service provider will setup a computer solely for your website; it will not be shared with other clients. A dedicated communications line or minimum bandwidth allotment may also be provided, subject to contract negotiation. Having a dedicated server usually means a much faster loading time for your site because the entire computer is "dedicated" to running the server software. This is different from most other hosting accounts in which your website will share space on a server with many other websites.

Description Tag:

The description tag is Meta data that appears if you right click your mouse and click "View Source" on any Web page. This data is written like a marketing statement and should clearly communicate the purpose of the page. Ideally, the description tag should be around 170 characters (with spaces). Depending on the engine, additional characters over 170 may be truncated. The description is visible on the SERP with engines that support this tag (some search engines, like Google, use a copy snippet for the description).

DHTML:

Dynamic HTML or DHTML designates a technique of creating interactive web sites by using a combination of the static markup language HTML, a client-side scripting language (such as JavaScript) and the style definition language Cascading Style Sheets.

Directory:

In computing, a directory, catalog, or folder, is an entity in a file system which contains a group of files and other directories. A typical file system contains thousands of files, and directories help organize them by keeping related files together. A directory contained inside another directory is called a subdirectory of that directory. Together, the directories form a hierarchy, or tree structure.

Disk Space:

This indicates the amount of disk space that will be available to you on the host’s server to hold your website files.

DNS:

The Domain Name Server (System) or DNS is a system that stores information about host names and domain names in a kind of distributed database on networks, such as the Internet. Most importantly, it provides an IP address for each host name, and lists the mail exchange servers accepting e-mail for each domain.

Domain Name:

The name that identifies a web site (e.g., yqaresearch.com). Also referred to as a URL.

Domain Name Server:

Domain Name Server (DNS) is the global system web browsers use to find websites. The DNS entry lists the IP address for every domain name. A website cannot be found unless its domain name is properly registered in the DNS system. When DNS is hosted, it indicates that the domain name is pointing to the correct website. When DNS is parked, it is considered a temporary spot to point the domain name until the finished website is ready.

Domain Parking:

Many hosting companies give you the option to 'park' your domain name (www.yqaresearch.com) without actually having your website up and running. Great option if you want to acquire a domain name well ahead of having the website itself designed and constructed.

Doorway Page:

Doorway pages are web pages that are created to rank high in search engines for particular phrases with purpose to seduce or hoax you to watch another page. They are also known as bridge pages, portal pages, zebra pages, jump pages, gateway pages, entry pages and by other names.

Downloading:

When you download a file from the Internet, you transfer it from some computer on the Internet to your own computer.

Dynamic Page:

Information on web pages which changes or is changed automatically. Sometimes it's possible to spot this technique by looking at a page's file extension.
Search engines will currently index dynamic content in a similar fashion to static content.
